CA 24

Crew of 4 workmen began extension of CA 24 trench into grids C-H (cutting into small part of I) 19-20; H and G cut as far as 20, other sectors only as far as 19.  The concentration of stones extending from C toward F is slightly less in 19, being replaced by the dark brown soil which characterizes frids H and G; very black soil occurs only on bottom of exposed levels, and was not excavated.  Most architectural fragments came from grid F19 while the pottery, rocchetti, spindle whorls and pierced bone came from grids H19 and G19.  Soil here was extremely wet, hence bones and pottery are now very friable.
