All topsoil was removed yesterday. Therefore, Locus 1 was closed and Locus 2 opened. Closing photos and elevations for Locus 1 and opening photos and elevations for Locus 2 were taken.

We began with a pick pass of Locus 2, moving from west to east. Soil is a medium yellowish-brown color and claylike, with numerous small rocks. Loose soil was hand-sorted in the trench into buckets with trowels. Very little tile and pottery were recovered and we have not yet found any bone, although we did recover an iron nail (Find #4). The first five buckets of soil were collected for flotation.
Some larger rocks began to appear in the central meters of the trench that do not appear to be bedrock. It is not yet clear if these form part of a feature of not.

Work continued with another pick pass of the trench, beginning in the west and working east. Soil continues to be medium yellowish brown and claylike, with many small and medium-sized rocks; there are some large rocks appearing in the trench floor, but these appear scattered and do not seem to form a feature. Soil is hand sorted into buckets in the trench. Very few materials have been found, just a few fragments of tile and the occasional ceramic sherd. We have not yet found any bone. Closing elevations for the day taken.
