General remarks | This is the structure of furnace locus 2 (located in the NW corner on the first stepof D6).It consists of mud bricks (mostly) and fill (also mostly) and some pottery and rock. This is a large furnace with 5 chambers facing East down the slope of the main mound. The chambers dimensions are as follows (in meters): South (L24): 0.2 | South Middle(L25): 0.25 | Middle(L26): 0.18 | North middle(L27): 0.27 | North(L28): 0.17 The lower portion of L20 form the west edge to the large pit (fill=L29). |

Has note | Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci. |
