General remarks	This locus is a large pit partially excavated as L4024 and L4028 last year. It is located in the center of the northern half of the trench partially in the baulk between D4 and D3. The part of theis pit excavated this year is the northern third that was within the baulk. Some of the bricks were sampled and given the KT number 4063.

Description remarks	this pit is filled with nearly complete mud bricks and pieces of mud bricks. This debris around the mud bricks is very fine red silt and is the same material as what the bricks are made of.

Has note	Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
