Condition Lower portion of forelegs and hindlegs missing. Surface worn and pitted in areas, especially left side of wing.
Description Small figure of a crouching sphinx, carved of bone ranging in color from tan to gray. the proportionately large head has bulging eyes, a prominent nose, and protruding lips and chin. The centrally-parted hair, falling straight to the shoulder, is incised with a herringbone pattern and held by a fillet. The wing, formed of a single large volute, springs from the shoulder and is attached at the back of the head. The details of feathers on the wings are also incised and the muscles of the haunches are shown in low relief.
