Description | Fragmentary bucchero handle in the form of a winged, frontal woman topped by the head of a helmeted warrior serving as a finial. The molded body of the female figure is roughly rectangular in shape and flat; the wings begin at her waist and extend up to the neck, gradually widening; at chin level they taper and curl inwards, leaving two small cut-out areas between the hair and wings. The hair is parted in the middle, and forms two long tresses, each with an incised line down the center, which extends to the lower fracture. She clutches the tresses in her hands, now worn away; the arms are bent at the elbows. The head is in higher relief than the rest of the body; the face is long and shows two incised almond-shaped eyes (one larger than the other), a large, broad nose, thick lips, and a prominent chin. Behind the head and above is the head of a helmeted warrior, serving as a finial. The face has chipped away. |
Fabric Description | Bucchero, fine grain, burned black to orange. |
