General remarks Fill around the east of oven.Locus 2 and oven debri locus 6 on the first step, north west corner of D6. We began this locus to isolate material associated with oven locus 2.It was prevbusly locus 4. Subtopsoil (no chance in color, texture, etc.) On July 11 we contracted this locus as more mudbricks came up in locus 6 (in the north).and with the sounding locis L12 + L13, and excavated ~1 1/2 cm, taking 1:4 soil sample (for Lynn)

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
