Descriptive Attribute Value(s)
Designator Sounding Level
General remarks Sounding level through L5063 to determine if it was, indeed, the floor and try and find the founding of wall L5045. We did come on softer, sub-floor type fill within about 10 cm and it appears the walls were founded about 12 cm below the surface level, though it"s hard to determine due to an inability to pick out courses in the wall. Two areas of slightly different soil texture (5075 and 5077) were made into their own loci.

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
