Has note | An area is a two dimensional projection of an arbitrary geomorphologic portion of the site. No systematic or scientific methods were used in designating areas. Instead, area designations (Areas A through I) were assigned based loosely on the topography of the site. Area A is located on the top of the main mound, Area B and Area C are located on the western slopes of the site, Area D, Area E and Area I are located on the eastern, southeastern and southern slopes of the main mound respectively while Areas F, G and H are located in the flat lower potion of the site to the east of the main mound (often referred to as the "lower town"). On average these areas are about 1/4 of a hectare in size (1 hectare = 100 meters-sq.). Each area contains one or more trenches that were under the supervision of an area supervisor. |
