Structure Dimensions Length 7.80m. Height 62cm maximum. Width 45cm maximum.
Structure Description Bottom ashlar blocks, some with some fill and small rocks between them. Upper rocks are more crumbly tufa, smaller in size, with less square edges. Two possible drainage cuts that have been filled in later.

Interpretation

  • Associated with other changes in the Area B structure (including a general raising and renovation of both the road 1400 and the courtyard), this represents a patching on top of 1245. Construction cut and fill, 5017 and 5016 respectively, are very shallow and definitely unrelated to the lower courses of 1245 on top of which 5018 was built. SU 1162 and a single block 1263 are associated with further patching of 5018 and further obliteration of 1245. It seems that 5018 may have blocked the earlier entrance to the structure from the west.

  • Two types of tufa are present. The gray tufa could be disintegrated ashlars. Some orange-y tufa ashlars have also been used. Wall is characterized by soil and small rocks between many stones.
