General remarks | This locus is a feature, possibly the foundation of a wall or a door way. There were 9 rocks freestanding and three partially submerged in the baulk. One rock has a round divot in the top, possibly a door post hole. Seven of the free standing rocks form a large half circle and do not abut each other. The other two freestanding rocks are on the outside of the half circle form to the north. The northernmost one is the stone with the divot in it. They are situated next to each other parallel to the east baulk. The stones protruding from the baulk to abut each other. |

Has note | Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci. |
