Title Cavetto Fragment from Raking or Lateral Sima
Primary photo False
Photo Type Cataloged Artifact
Photo ID 6369
Album ID 0
Description The fragment preserves a portion of the front concave surface and a portion of the back convex surface of a cavetto. The front surface preserves portions of four strigils, including the complete widths of the middle two. The strigils are defined by four low-relief bands alternating with three clefts, each just slightly varying in width and depth. A recent break edge reveals the biscuit of the fragment, which displays large white inclusions. The color of the biscuit is somewhat stratified with a dark brown color in the middle which gradually lightens and becomes a dark orange at either opposing surface. The outward curvature of the fragment from its side view indicates its association with the top of a raking or lateral sima.
