Image Type Day plan
Has note The purpose of the daily plan is to record a visual record of the daily activities in a trench. These plans show the trench in 2d from above the trench, on the horizontal plane. The day plan is meant to be used in conjunction with the daily journal entries and locus photographs to reconstruct the chronology and location of activities taking place in a trench. The dayplans were usually drawn only of the excavated portion of the trench, since the baulks never changed. For example, a 10x10m trench was usually drawn to scale as a 9x9m. Although the day plan is a measured drawing, the fact that day plans were drawn on A4 graph paper means that they do not have the resolution of publishable plans. Instead they should be seen as locus maps that are generally accurate but are of relatively low resolution. Day plans are particularly helpful in allowing an analyzer to visualize where loci were located in horizontal and vertical space on any given day.
