A.M.

The area amongh and around the stones in meter N6/E47 and the adjoining area in meter N6/E48 was swept down for photographs.  Following photography the trench balks in these meters were cleaned down with mestaline for clearer definition.  Cleaning revealed no perceptible soil change.

Meters N5/E47 and the western half of N5/E48 were cleaned down with mestaline and bruches, extending the depths of the trench in these meters to a depth of 10 to 15 cm.  The soil in this area was grey brown in color and contined many small

roots and a few small pieces of carbonized wood.  A number of stones were uncovered in meter N/E47 at a depth of ca. 15 cm.  Further clearing of the trench floor will be necessary to determine both the exact position of these stones and their possible relationship to the stones to the north in meter N6/E47.  Several small pieces of vitrified tile and burned bone were also recovered while clearing in meter N5/E47.  In addition, a few seeds were recovered in the western half of meter N5/E48.  A quarter of a small box of impasto pottery was also recovered.

Work continues in clearing down meter N5/E47 and the western half of meter N5/E48 with mestaline and bruches.  Beginning at a depth of ca. 20-25 cm. the soil in meter N5/E47 appeared to turn light brown in color.  Since much of the soil is still wet from rain, it is difficult to detect this chance with certainty.  The area, therefore, will be felt to dry until the soil can be more easily examines.  The soil in the western half of meter N5/E48, however, remained grey-brown in color and contined occassional small pieces of carbonized wood.  In addition, the rocks uncovered this morning in meter N5/E47 were swept and more clearly defined.  In contrast to the

neat line of rocks found in meter N6/E47, these rocks appear to be more randomly placed.  Further cleaning will be necessary to more clearly define their position.  In addition, since these rocks occur at a higher level than those in meter N6/E47, it is possible that they overlie a more regular stone formation below.  A few pieces of burned bone and pottery were discovered in the grey-brown soil in meter N5/E48.  A few small pieces of worn tile were also discovered.  Finally, a few small pieces of vitrified tile were discovered in meter N5/E48.
