28 July 2022 AM: The morning began with hand picking in Locus 11 to bring it down to the elevation of loci 5 and 6. The soil continued to be very compact dark brown clay except in the southeast corner where the degraded stone deposit previously found in Locus 5 emerged. There were frequent inclusions of pottery, bone, and small to medium stones. SF 85 Locus 11 173.24E/59.28S 26.50m AE Knuckle bone Excavation in Locus 11 stopped once it was lowered down to the elevation of Locus 5 and 6 due to time constraints of the season. Inclusions today were limited to pottery, bone, and carbon. Several large stones were left in situ as they were still deeply set after levelling. Locus 11 was closed and closing elevations were taken: NW: 26.40m AE NE: 26.47m AE SE: 26.50m AE SW: 26.44m AE Next, a portion of T22 (2019) was de-backfilled to reveal the continuation of the faced bedrock outcropping. The baulk between the de-backfilled area of T22 and Locus 11 was taken out and the area was cleaned and swept. The outcropping is intact from the eastern baulk of the trench stretching west for 2.25m and then cut for 0.75m until it re-emerges for 2.00m in T22 (2019). The cut in the outcropping is congruent with the curve of the dark compact clay cut (Locus 6 and 11) in the degraded stone of Locus 5. The bedrock, which is 1m wide for 2.00m in the trench as initially laid out and 0.30m wide for another 1m in the extension was recorded as Locus 12. Opening elevations and coordinates were taken: Locus 12 elevations and coordinates open/close: NW: 26.88m AE 173E/59.70S NE: 26.65m AE 176E/59.70S SE: 26.68m AE 176E/60.70S SW: 26.70m AE 174E/60.70S Munsell: 10YR 7/2 light gray PM: The entire trench was brushed for closing photos tomorrow morning. The face of the bedrock outcropping was drawn on millimeter paper. Daily artifact totals Locus 11: 76 bulk bone 68 bulk pottery
