Daily Log

July 14, 1994

Work continued with mestilini and dental picks in removing the tile fall in meters D/71-73 and defining the new layer of blackish soil, also spreading into E/71-72.  The soil in and around the tile concentration is a medium brown soil with heavy plaster inclusions.

Immediately below this soil is a much darker, nearly black soil with heavy carbon inclusions.  Pottery and plaster is present in this darker soil, but there is no occurrence of tile.

Small stones are present across the floor of the trench, but concentrated in the eastern portion of E/72 and all of E/73.  The floor of these meters has been leveled down and now is consistently dark soil with heavy carbon inclusions.  Several unusual ceramic and plaster fragments have been found and taken to the magazino.
