July 8th, 1999
This morning began by taking depths in order to chart our progress within the trench. To date we have taken down approximately 30-40 cm, within locus 16 we have taken down ~14 cm. Soil remains dark brown with slightly gray overtones.
were taken of the South and West baulks in order to document the variable stratigraphy within the trench. Began a pick pass in meters E186-188/S49-50 about ~5 cm deep. Special finds have consisted of three Italo-Corinthian piece (finds #1,2, & 7); two bronze pieces, one triangular possible inlay and one fibula pin (finds 3 & 4); one rochetto fragment preserving a head and part of the shaft (find #5) and two stamped bucchero pieces consisting of the smae design and possibly joining (find #6 & 8). This morning's work yielded ~six latte boxes of pottery and bone and 1/2 a cassette of plaster and tile.
