Stratigraphic Summary

Locii IN, IS seem to be of the same stratigraphic layer.  They both are the topsoil layer and are dark brown.  Directly underneath these layers lie 2N and 2S respectively.  Both these locii represent the dump of previous excavations. Below the modern dump lay another layer of possibly disturbed material, for in this area was found a plastic cup.  This area is made of up of Locii 3S and 4S.

Now we come upon the archaic period stratigraphy.  It only consists of one layer of stratigraphy in each trench, Locii 4N and 3N and 5.  This area had large terracotta pieces in the north trench.  In this soil was a fragment of lateral sima and a possible antefix piece.

Locii 8, 10 and Locii 9, 11, and 13 represent entry into the next stratigraphic layer.  The soil was a finer, sandier texture.  Bronze fragments and carbon pieces began to appear.  These areas stretch to the burn layer of the orientalizing period.  This layer also produced quite a volume of plaster, easily seen in the stratigraphy.

Locus 12 was the beginning of the dark soil (below Locii 8/10).  The dark soil surrounded several large terracotta pieces that were much better preserved than most of the terracotta in Locii 8/10.  A pan tile piece may actually fit from Locus 10 to the flanges removed in Locus 12.  The soil is dark with carbon and small amounts of pottery, but larger pieces (more of a vessel) than previous layers.

The excavation of Locus 12 is not complete.
