STRATEGY: Remove 2007 to E and W edges of f268 (pit). Remove 2007 a further 10cm in depth.

SUMMARY: Section of 2007 at W edge of pit removed first; fill generally similar to that surrounding- relatively loose, with pockets of harder pise/clay rubble, moderate artefact content and edge well defined. As work to clear the E half of the pit commenced , a much higher density of sherds was encountered, particularly what appeared to be several fragments of a large, vegetal tempered cooking or storage jar. In hopes that the remains were sufficient for reconstruction, effort was expended to clean the sherds in situ. Bone and fragments of other vessels were present as well. This portion of the pit (SE quadrant) also continues to show reddish soil interpreted as burning, although it is unclear whether this is primary or secondary context. Another point of interest is a hollow sounding 'lump' in the bottom centre of f268, suggesting the possibility that this feature is a burial pit.
