21 July 2022 AM: The morning began with scraping and handpicking in Locus 9 to further define the emerging linear stone feature. The soil was compact, medium to light brown, and clayish. It had occasional inclusions of tile, pottery, and newly emerged bone fragments which were not found yesterday. There were also carbon inclusions occasionally, particularly near the linear stone feature. Also among the stones a burnt bone fragment was uncovered. SF 55 Locus 9 173.64E/56.64S 26.96m AE Burnt bone with associated fragment One plaster fragment with a reed impression was also uncovered, unexpected for this context. SF 56 Locus 9 173.29E/56.85S 26.86m AE Plaster fragment with reed impression After the stones in the linear stone feature were defined, the trench was swept and roots were clipped in the areas around the linear stone feature. As the linear stones beneath Locus 9 were equal to the stones in Locus 8, Locus 8 was extended to include the stones in the northern portion. Photos, including drone photos, were taken of Locus 8 plus the extension. Elevations were taken of the extended Locus 8: NW: 26.97m AE 173E/56S NE: 27.09m AE 174E/56S SE: 27.00m AE 174E/60S SW: 27.04m AE 173E/60S Largest stone: 27.19m AE Munsell: 10YR 7/2 light gray PM: After the documentation of Locus 8 and its extension, it was decided to remove the southern half of Locus 8 (the original extend of Locus 8) in order to excavate the area and discover the extent of the Locus 6 deposit below. The stone and tile were removed. The tile was collected in bulk and measured by bowl as usual while the stones were removed and deposited west of T22. There were also inclusions of pottery and a few pieces of plaster. Some bone was found as well, including a tooth.
