Began clearing the trench of brush and leaves as well as the grass and weeds surrounding the trench. Established an area for a dirt dump about 2 meters directly north of the trenches. Reached the floor of the trench with some difficulty due to the extreme moistness of the soil. Discovered that the soil under the plastic was just as wet and consquently we are unable to begin excavation today. 2 loci are visible on the immediate surface of the trench. Locus 12 which was not closed as of the end of the 98 season spans about 1 1/2 to 2 meters of the trench. Locus 14 which is distinguishable by the powdery orange areas spotting the trench floor occupies the rest of the meter space at a lower level than locus 14. Locus 14 being 5-19 cm lower than locus 12
