STRATEGY: Continue to define f266 and f227. Clarfiy relationship between f263 and f262. Investigate soil change adjacent to f260 (see sketch 20 Aug 97).

SUMMARY: Edges of f227 and f266 remain solid on removal of 917 further. It was decided that the soil change adjacent to f260 may relate to a lower level of architecture and so would be examined at a later date. Lot 904 was further removed to show that f262 either runs underneath or directly joins f263. f262 can therefore only be earlier than or contemporary with f263. From the direction both features run into the western section f262 is more likely to be earlier to, then contemporary with f263. Lot 904 appears to abut both features making it a later fill. Isolated areas of 903 were occasionally present in the area of 904 removed, emphasising the interleaving of the two deposits. The surface reached on removal of the bulk of 903, on which f267 rests, does not have a clearly defined edge to 904, but appears to break up into large fragments intermixed with 904 at the point where both deposits meet.
