L-M/82-83 were excavated down another 5 to 10 cm.  Large quantities of tile, much of it vitrified, were found were found.  Chunks of carbonized wood were also found.

From west to east, outside our baulk, the plastic-covered floor of the S.E. Building rises.  As a result in M/82 we are still roughly 30 cm above the floor, Whereas in M/85 we are only 15 cm above the floor.

L-M/82-83 and K/83 produced 2 1/2 cassette of tiles and plaster.  This cut takes us to roughly 50 cm below the northern baulk.  Pottery filled a latte box.  Orangeware was most common w/ a few fragments of buccheroid and impasto.

PM

The cut was completed in K-M/84-85.  Large quantities of tile and plaster, some burned, were found.  Pithos fragments have also been found in abundance.  Traces of burned ivory were also encountered.  Bronze pieces and one large piece of slag were also found.  Some large stones exist at the bottom of this cut (50 cm).  These are above the floor level of the S.E. Building, and do not seem to lie in any recognizeable pattern.  One piece of incised ivory inlay was found in L/85.  Some possible worked bone was also collected.  Orangeware and impasto were the predominant wares of pottery, which filled 1/4 of a latte box.  A fine bucchero handle and a fine redware handle were also found.  A stump was removed from L/85. 2 cassetta of tile, 1 cassette of plaster.
