Daily Log

June 25th, 1999

AM

Began the day with a pick pass in meters E186/S49-50 approximately ~5-8 cm deep. Soil is still reddish-brown in color so rejoins its designation of locus 14. Continue to find large quantities of reed impressed plaster as wass as fragments of bronze (refer to find #9) within the meters of E186/S49-50. The next pick pass into meters E187 and 188/S49-50 began to yield a change in soil color and texture. Soil was a distinctive dark brown which easily stained our hands. This area of the trench was designated locus 16 and with the multitude of material coming from this area was determined to be a burn layer. The burn layer the remaining length of the trench into meters E188/S49&50. Meters E186/S49-50 had not yet reached the burn layer, so was excavated more extensively and the burn layer slopes about 5-8 cm below the remaining layer

Continued excavation of meters E186/S49-50 down to the burn layer. Found much plaster, especially plaster balls of large size. Cleared the baulks of the trench and proceeded to take depths of the entire trench. Today's excavation yielded 9 latte boxes of pottery and bone, 3 cassette of primarily plaster and some tile.
