Description After defining the locus 2 rock feature and leveling locus 1 and 3, a one-meter by two-meter extension was opened to the north that linked CA 70 to CA 71. This extension was declared locus 4 and was opened to discover whether the locus 2 rock feature connected with a similar rock feature in CA 71. The soil is the same soil as Locus 1; a dark brown humus layer with large quantities of rocks intermixed. There were two special finds in Locus 4, including an atypical piece of iron (20120038) and a piece of iron slag (20120085). As such, there was a great amount of slag discovered in locus 4. Impasto and coarseware pottery were also found in large quantities, however most were non-diagnostic body sherds. The extension did in fact indicate that the linear rock formations in each trench were part of the same feature, though also produced an additional terracotta feature. This feature was a spill of large fragments of architectural terracotta and pottery that represented the entire eastern meter of Locus 4. The feature was defined, though not excavated until Locus 10 was opened. Locus 4 was closed when Locus 7 was opened to represent the entire surface of the trench.
