Description Locus 9 was made up an extremely hard-packed, yellowish soil containing some small carbon inclusions. The locus was also very thin, with an average depth of only approximately 8cm. Additionally, Locus 9 contained hardly any material and at first, before excavating this soil, was thought to be sterile. Some material was recovered from this locus though, including 3/4 bowl of tile and plaster, 12 sherds of pottery, and 11 pieces of bone. An archaic rosette applique fragment was found resting at the top of this locus, in Locus 8, and it seems likely that Locus 9 should also be identified as an archaic stratum, due to the presence of this rosette.
