Description Locus 1 is the topsoil of the trench. It extends throughout the trench. It consists of a very dark brown soil, with a large amount of humus and organic material. Some larger roots are present from the stump present in the south-east corner and the tree near the south-west corner. Some small (ca. 5cm) and medium (ca. 10-15cm) stones were included throughout the trench. Locus 1 rests on a much lighter brown/yellow soil. Two sherds of pottery and about 30 pieces of terracotta were in Locus 1.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
