Description Locus 11 consisted of a rock packing that was located in the eastern extension of the trench. The rocks of the rock packing ranged in size from medium to large and generally got larger as the locus was excavated to a greater depth. The soil in which the rocks were contained at first was dark olive-brown in color with occassional patches of dark grayish-blue soil; deeper in the locus, the dark grayish-blue soil became increasingly predominant and this dark grayish-blue soil resembled the soil of Loci 4, 10, and 12. Although the color of the soil gradually changed, the soil was uniformly extremely claylike with an occassional fetid scent. Little archaeological material, including terracotta roofing tile and pottery, was found in the locus although all materials recovered were ancient, suggesting that this was a contextually sound deposit. Locus 11 is equivalent to Loci 5 and 6.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
