Description Locus 14 is the soil directly beneath the southern half of Locus 11. It is south of Locus 13 and the SE "leg" of Locus 12. It extends into the entire S baulk, and the S ca. 1 m of the W baulk, and the S half of the E baulk. Locus 14 is characterized by a yellowish brown clay that is dry and bakes very quickly in sunlight and heat. It is most likely identical to the lighter soil of Locus 10, and is similar (and probably identical in the area near the west baulk) of the lighter soil in Locus 5. Finds in Locus 14 were few, although they included some terracotta, ceramic, and even some bone. Locus 14 is most likely still significantly composed of backfill. The fact that it is located under a piece of tarp in the SE corner suggested that excavtion had finally proceeded to the point where it was under the backfill, but the continuity of the soil in the E baulk, the fact that a rock laying in both Locus 14 and 13 was lifted to reveal a void with air pockets indicates that this is still backfill, probably both from one of the T-6 trenches in the E and T-15 in the S. Only one pick pass was completed in this locus. Time constraits forced excavtion to focus on the more archaeologically secure soil in Locus 12 and 15. Since the locus is not finished, only the corners of the trench were included in the closing points, since they could provide an indicator of the depth of the locus at the end of the 2009 season.
