Description Locus 2 is an olive brown soil, with roots and small stones. Most of the stumps had roots only as deep as locus 2 and therefore were removed. Most of the large rocks from locus 1 continued into locus 2, but no deeper and were removed, at 88.5S another set of large rocks was uncovered. There is much worn terracotta and pottery present in this stratum. Some root rot is present. The soil is clay-like in texture. During the excavation of Locus 2 unusually large amounts of terracotta were recovered, while most of these fragments were well worn and pitted, many of them towards the end were large fragments. Many fragments of pithos were recovered. Almost no bone was found in this locus (only 2 pieces recovered). This season 15 dateable artifacts were recovered from Locus 2, all were similar in nature to the architectural terracottas found at the Archaic complex on Piano del Tesoro. There were 7 fragments of frieze plaques (20110004, 20110029, 20110050, 20110073, 20110083, 20110101, 20110068), along with 3 fragments of sima plaques (20110072, 20110082. 20110095). In addition to these artifacts a fragment of gorgon hair was recovered (20110057) and 3 fragments of akroterion statues (20110088, 20110090, 20110098) were recovered.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
