Description Locus 1 is the topsoil/humus layer and consists of a brown soil that is full of organic material. There is an abundance of roots in the soil due to the large amount of stumps in the trench. There are also rocks 5-7cm in length scattered throughout the trench. The material recovered from this locus includes 1/2 bowl of worn terracotta and 1/8 box of worn pottery sherds.
