Title Worked Antler or Bone Bead

[Worked Bone]*

Description The worked bone preserves a roughly cylindrical form. The exterior side surface displays 14 relatively wide pronounced flutings delineated by 13 deep narrow clefts. The surface is broken through the length of one of these clefts. Two bore holes, positioned opposite one another, perforate the sides between the exterior and interior surfaces. The exterior side surface meets the flat exterior upper and lower surfaces at a sharp angle. The central portion of the bone is irregularly hollowed out longitudinally between the two opposing flat exterior surfaces, delineating the interior surface. The exterior surfaces are relatively smooth, while the interior surface is irregular due to natural pitting. All surfaces display possible rasp marks.

[Piece is a round drum-shaped object with 14 flutes that may be part of a fan handle. The vertical flutes decorated the exterior of the object, the interior has been hollowed out. Two smaller holes have been drilled through the object on opposite sides of the central hole. A single groove has been cut through the length of the piece. Both ends finished, the diameter of the piece closer to the horizontal bore is greater than the diameter on the opposite end.]*
