Descriptive Variable Value(s)
Title Vase, Fragment of Handle
Primary photo False
Photo Type Cataloged Artifact
Photo ID 8380
Album ID 0
Description At the base of the handle are two owls with their bodies facing left and their heads facing front. Their heads are roundish with pointed beaks. A circle with a round dot in the center as a pupil forms the eyes. Their bodies are log and ovoid. The wings are marked off from the body by two incised lines. Straight, incised lines indicate the feathers. Because the bodies are in profile, only two claws are shown shaped as if holding onto a branch. Below the owls are two ridges set off by two grooves. They curve up under the owls and down at the sides. The handle follows this curve and separates into two parts beneath the owls. The back is smooth.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
