Daily Log

27 July 2015

The workday commenced using trowels to scrape the floor of the trench to clean up some of the mud created by the rainstorms over the weekend. Due to the moisture it is difficult to discern any potential changes in soil texture of color. Therefore, work may need to pause at some point to allow the soil to dry. Soil is currently being hand sorted into buckets using hand picks and trowels.

Small concentrations of terra cotta, pottery, and bone have been recovered from Locus 5 .

Work also began on the baulk walls to clean them up from the rainstorms.

After cookie break work moved to Locus 2 to scrape down the trench floor in that area to clean up the mud from the storm as well as to allow the illustrator to draw Locus 5 .

Once the features were drawn and the trench floor was properly scraped and cleaned, it was decided to remove

the baulk wall between T-75 and T-78 to better expose the rock features in those areas. A pick-axe was used to remove the baulk. The soil was shoveled into buckets and then hand sorted into wheelbarrows.

The loose soil was cleaned up and during clearing a piece of slag was found.

Using a hand pick, dirt was removed from around the roots of the stump present in the baulk wall.
