It was decided to cut east in order to merge T-25 and T-26. The baulk between the two trenches only measured .6 of a meter - it will be T-25, grid 58. A huge amount of tile came out of grid 58 0 gamma through zeta. There were also some pithos fragments, and a good amount of vitrified terracotta. Very little pottery came out of this cut which was brought down to ~10 cm above the "floor".

The cut down to "floor" level in gamma/55-57 was continued. A small amount of tile and almost no pottery was found in this cut. But in gamma/57 at approximately 40 cm, a cut-out acroterion fragment with a finished point was found. Three cm deeper, another fragment was found preserving the attachment for the ridgepole and part of the actual cut-out.

The areas of "floor" which have not yet been found or cleaned down to were worked on.

Grids gamma-epsilon/58 were brought down to "floor" level. There was an even greater amount of tile in this second cut - many of the fragments, both pan and cover, had finger impressions. There are large stones along the line between grids 57 and 58. There is a large stump in delta/57-58. A very large (what appears to be pan) tile was uncovered on the "floor," yet under a large stone in gamma/57-58.

Grids epsilon/56-57 were cut down to "floor" level. A good amount of pottery was found in epsilon/57 - mainly impasto and coarseware, but a few fragments of bucchero as well. Many of the pieces appeared to be base fragments. Some tile was found, but large plaster chunks were left "in situ."

Grids gamma-epsilon/56-58 were cleaned down to the "floor" - which is very well-preserved in this area. In gamma/56, a huge mass of plaster -just to the outside of the line of the northern column bases - was encountered and cleaned down. There is a terracotta "brick"

embeded in the plaster. The mass appears to rest above the "floor," if not directly on it. Another column base was uncovered in gamma/56-57 -approximately 2.75 m from both the third base found in T-25 and the westernmost base in T-26.This base is quite well-preserved.

The tile (mentioned on p. 28) in gamma/57-58 - after having been cleaned down - actually appears to be three separate tiles. They are too small to be regular pan tiles. They appear to be lying directly on the "floor."
