July 22, 1987

Washout in T-22 was cleaned.  D/56 produced several pieces of glass.  One piece of ivory or bone was found in this area also.  Minimal pottery was found in grids D-E/56.  Tile and plaster filled one half a cassetta.

O-P/54 was brought to the level of T-22.  In these grids, depth from surface is roughly 100 cm.  One tall latte box of assorted pottery was filled.  Tile and plaster was minimal.

T-22 A/54 cleaned further to bedrock, removing wash-out.  Likewise, C/52-54 at 1.1 m was cleaned partially at washout.

Found was some tile and less pottery fragments of mostly impasto and some finer pieces of bucchero.  Some bone as well as several pieces of creamware found.  1 small latte box.

T-22 A/52-53 cleaned partially down to 75 cm level.  Found much bone and some impasto pottery and one piece of creamware.  1 small latte box.

T-22 D-F/52-54 cleaned to bedrock.  Found some tile and orangeware pottery.  Some finer

impasto but little "finds."  ~1 small latte box.

T-26 G-H-I/54-56 taken to 140 cm.  Some finds including glass pieces and creamware.  Tile minimal but much bone.  1 large latte box of pottery.  Bucchero, redware, impasto including handle-base fragment (not a "find").

T-26 O-R/54-55.  Little tile (less than a cassetta).  Mostly impasto fragments of all sizes and width.  Fair amount of redware and occasional finer ware (see finds).  Rock line excavated more.  N to the end, at least, seems to be on some rock base.  2 large, 3 small latte boxes.  Redware handle and much bone found.  Impasto often burned or fire-damaged.

Cut was extension of 120 cm T-22 level.  Soil changed from hard, rocky gray-brown to denser, black-red-burned less sterile soil at 5 of this cut.
