Boxes of pottery 3
Boxes of tile 1
A cut 2 m long, 10-9 and 1 m. wide, G was made in an attemp to uncover evidence of a lower building foundation wall running east to west. A stone packing was discovered approx. 39 cm from the soil surface but it lacks any coherent definition. (see diagram).
The second cut of the day was 4 m long, B-E and 2 m wide, 8-7. A heavy stone packing was found in this section yet we found no evidence of a wall. A layer of brown soil inter-mixed with carbon was found lying above this layer of small stones. Two "strawberry" boxes of coarse-ware pottery were found as well as some pieces of bone. A number of interesting "finds" were also found in this section, including a section of a bronze nail, a piece of incised bucchero, a piece of painted fine ware, a decorated rocchetto face, an impasto rocchetto, an incised bucchero handle and a fibula pin. some large pieces of bucchero bowls were also found.
