Daily Log

June 26, 1987

Work continued in section LM/78-81 to uncover the stratum ca. 80-1.00m below the surface.  Ivory, bronze flakes and fragments of Italo-Corinthian ware were found, along with a piece of Ionic bowl.  A possible sima fragment was also recovered, along with a pan tile with a fingerprint on the corner and a slight concave depression.

Pottery [?] of all sorts-pithos fragments, bucchero and coarse and orange ware.

Work continued in both LM/78-81 and MNO/71-77.

A cluster of pan and cover tiles was found in L/78-79.  None preserved a completed width of length and were placed on the tile pile.  An ivory triangle was found in L/80-81, and work slowed to dental picks.  More ivory was found, but no finished pieces, just the light blue type.  In LM/78-79, the soil contained a chalky substance, interspersed with plaster and terra cotta pieces.

In MNO/71-77, the third cut was continued to a meter out.  The soil was dark brown, and interspersed with small pieces of carbonized wood.  A few pieces of burnt terra cotta and pottery were also found.  Bronze flakes were found in NO/71-72, along with a rochetto (M/72).  Pottery was mostly bucchero, impasto, and coarse ware.  Bone was also found (4 different pieces) along with a shell.

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
