After scraping with towels, it became apparent that the galestra discovered yesterday was localized and did not extend the entirety of the trench floor as suspected.  Therefore the trench was divided into two new loci - 7 = area surrounding galestra and 8 = galestra area.  Locus 7 encompasses an L shaped area which frames Locus 8 and is comprised of a loose brown soil in meters 216.5E, 5.5-6.42N; 218.5E, 6.42-7.5N; 219.5E, 5.5-7.5N.  Locus 8, a rectangular area with two patches of galestra framing a scatter of rocks, covers meters 216.5-218.5, 6.42-7.5N.  Locus 7 was worked at first with the pick axe for approximately 8-10cm before large fragments of tile began to become evident.  We started defining with trowels and discovered what looks to be a tile spread starting in the NE corner.  The spread moved under the area designated as Locus 8, so we moved to this area working with baulk hammers by the afternoon.  The galestra patches in the eastern most part of Locus 8 gave way to a brown soil in which more tile was indeed discovered.  This suggests that the galestra was redeposited.  The rocks from the center of Locus 8 were also removed.  The galestra in the NW corner however did not seem to be subsiding as of the end of today.  Work will continue defining the tile spread tomorrow, as well as the excavation of Locus 8.  1/4 latte box of pottery came from locus 7, and 1/2 a box was removed from Locus 8.  5 latte boxes of tile fragments were removed as well.
