We work in AG-X 0-Z AA-BB completely cut 5 between our now more plausible wall in the east, the rock packing in the west (see sketch 6, p. 8) and trench wall in the south; and in our fossa trench in AG-11 E-F 9-15 completing cut 2 in E-F 11-9 and beginning cut 3 in 15-12 E-F.

In the AG-X we observe the same stratigraphy noted yesterday as far as the south wall but the contours of the two lower layers, the "green" and "dark" are highly uneven, falling toward the west.  To illustrate this we sketch a profile (# 10 p. 14) of this part of the trench which includes a carbonized "bean" noticed in situ in the wall.  Beans (and other seends. v. #s 4 and 5) occur, if not in great quantity, and mainly in the far south with a few along the wall in the north and east. They are most plenitful near the south edge alongside the rock packing to the west.  Further, they all, or nearly all, come from the very top of the cut over even the dense plaster burn, though the latter yields at least one.  This variegation of color, texture, and concentration of carbon, as well as the presence or absence of seeds suggests a deposition not unlike that of the barrow run over T25.  Pottery is plentiful from the bottom and upper, "plaster" burns.  In the bottom we find numerious large body fragments, and we dig down ca. 10cm to remove much of a largish impasto jar - rimless.  Fine buff and bucchero occurs as well (E-G # 3, painted) and at least two stems from bowls like those noted yesterday occur.  Note also little tile other than a great slab wedged into the wall below; some bone, including the mass of tusks # 1 all from one point; and the iron fragment # 6.  The wall continues to at least the cut floor and is an irregular packing of small rocks.  A piece of bronze slag and one of this grey/white composite slag also occur in AG-X.  In AG-11 the soil of cuts 2 and 3 is full of large and small rocks packing loosely with a little tile and less pottery (1 carton) in a dark root infested top soil which pales into the second cut of today (cut 3).  Cut 3 is 30cm deep and reaches E-F 12 in the west.  Most of our tile comes from 10 E-F perhaps because of a dump noted in cut 1.
