Excavation began by removing dump soil in grids gamma/42-43, gamma-delta/41, and gamma-epsilon/40, working from east to west. The soil included a fair number of small rocks scattered throughout the soil. Grids gamma-epsilon/39 were left as a baulk between this extension and the initial T-25 1982. This baulk will be used to compare section and also as a wheelbarrow path. 3/4 cas. tile and 1/2 box pottery were removed from this area.

Cut 1 was begun in grid gamma-epsilon/40 by removing the topsoil down 20-25cm. The soil is dark brown in color, very rooty and loose in texture.

P.M.

In grids gamma-epsilon/45-47, the tile fall was once again gradually uncovered with dental tools, owing to the presence of ivory in that area.

Excavation continued to a depth of 25cm into topsoil in grids gamma-epsilon/40-42, revealing several large stones in delta-epsilon/40-42, which are in line with the southern wall to the west. At this point, at least three large stones in delta/40-42 appear to correspond to the north face of the southern wall. In particular, one meter long stone in grid delta/41 retains a relatively flat north face.

However, in grids gamma/40-42, north of the southern wall, several more stones (10-30cm in length) were excavated. They lie in no apparent pattern as of this point in the excavation, and may be identified and perhaps connected with the rock packing north of the southern wall in grids gamma-delta/25-34, though at least one of these stones in gamma/40 is larger than some stones found in the southern wall. 1/4 cas tile, 1/10 box pottery.
