We took opening depths on trench T 32 for locus 1. Depths are as follows in absolute elevation:
Meter Depth
E167/S58.5 27.865
E168.5/S58.5 27.92
E170/S58.5 27.96
E167/S60.5 27.93
E168.5/S60.5 27.92
E170/S60.5 27.93
The trench looks as follows before excavation:
The large stump on the east side of the trench is very formidable and will have to be excavated around for now.
We began the days excavation with pick passes on the west side working east. We took a cut of ca. 10-12 cm. in most of the trench except for root and stump areas. This topsoil is medium to dark brown, very rooty, but not many rocks.
So far material yield is only terracotta pieces, varying from small to large. One piece of pottery was found, very worn small piece of coarseware.
P.M.
Afternoon was a continuation of the morning work, clearing locus 1.
Material finds:
1 Cassetta terracotta
2 Pottery sherds
