Daily Log

June 22, 1978

The area D-H 2-4 was cleared and excavated this morning.  D-E continues the slope of the hillside, while F-H levels to form a terrace.  Bedrock was encountered less than a meter below ground level in D, while the surface to a solid stone packing appeared at a depth of just over a meter in E-F.  This stone packaging is distinguished by the absence of earth fill and heavy calcite encrustation and shows the same constructino as the "fossa" contacted in NT-2 last week in a parallel position.  A concentration of pottery and burned tile appeared above the packaging - five cassette of tile and two "strawberry" boxes of mixed impasto and bucchero.
