Continued to clear brush in R13. Two fragments of tile were found on the surface.
Work was begun exposing the foundation stones of the north wall of the orientalizing structure; clearing grass and decaying leaves.
The area in E137-138, S20-21 was extended further east and west moving into the E139, S20-21 meters. The soil was yellowish with thick grass roots. No stones were exposed. This produced 4 fragments of pottery and 3 fragments of terracotta.
Work continued in the E140, S28 trench in meteres E142-144, S30 defining around small (15-20cm) stones. The soil was consistent with yesterday's work here- dark brown with carbon and plaster, Locus (locus number not recorded). Several large coarseware fragments were found, some extending into the south baulk, below the Upper Building foundations. Fragments of terracotta and pottery were also mixed among the smaller stones. Pottery and tile quantities will be recorded in the afternoon.
Work continued in R15, in meteres E147-148, S31, further defining the foundation stones of the orientalizing structure. The soil was dark-gray among the stones. 7 pottery and 8-10 terracotta fragments were recovered.
The south-west corner od R14, meteres E139, S28-29, was cleared down and the archaic foundations were defined. This produced 5 fragments of terracotta and 6 fragments of pottery and bone.
