June 26, 1998 AM

Morning started by taking approximately 5-10cm cut in N15 W10 and extending it into meters N14-11 W10. The area is still designated locus 4. The soil is olive brown (2.5Y 4/3) material excavated from locus 4 this morning included 45 tile fragments, 15 pieces of bone, 12 coarseware, 1 creamware, 1 bucchero, 3 redware and approximately 50 impasto fragments. Few occasinoal pieces of carbon were found in soil.

No work in the well area of CA42 was done.

In the afternoon it was decided to concentrate on the northeast corner of CA42N, meters N14-15 W10 since large quantities of material recovered in the morning came from this area. These 2 meters were designated locus 5. It's opening depth was approximately115 cm b.d. 34 tile pieces, 30 bone fragments, including 2 teeth, 10 redware fragments, including well preserved handle, 10 coarseware, 3 bucchero and 40 impasto fragments were found in locus 5.  in addition 8 joining fragments of impasto vessels were recovered.  Special finds included an impasto rochetto and a piece of iron slag.
