Purpose
The main purposes of excavating T-25, 1982 Extension, are three-fold. First, we wish to continue excavation along the southern wall (ca30m south of the Upper Building), discovered by L.R. Lacy in 1980 (LRL Bk I) and further uncovered by J. Hare in 1981 (JH Bk III). This wall to date runs in an east-west direction from the sourthern wall of Rectangle 22 in the west for approximately 30m east through the epsilon and zeta quadrants. There is a gap in the wall of about 5 meters at a distance of 20m from Rectangle 22; however, there is no evidence that this is a monumental entrance way (JH Bk III). It is hoped to further uncover more evidence of this wall running east, as well as a monumental entrance way.
Secondly, owing to the numerous finds made by Lacy and Hare in this area, consisting of burnt seeds, bronze slag and artifacts, crucible fragments, and cut bone and antler, there exists the possiblity of there being a workshop in the area, which would be ideally situated next to the well. It is hoped to discover artifacts and/or
the actual foundations of such a structure.
Lastly, T-25 1982 Extension should uncover fragments of large scale akroteria statues; this is in concordance with similar finds made in the area immediately north of the southern wall by Lacy and Hare 8LRL Bk I and JH Bk III).
