Work began by expanding the trench to the west to clear topsoil off section KO/71-77 with picks.  Work continued in section LM/78-81, removing the first humus layer (20 cm below the surface), and continuing with the second layer (40 cm below the surface).  We also continued in setting out the grid system.

In section KO/71-77, only 50 cm of topsoil was cleared out.  Finds at a level of 20 cm were minimal, although numerous sling stones were found, and fragments of tile (pan and cover), as well as some large chunks of plaster.  Pottery finds were minimal - three fragments of red ware.  When the next layer was removed, at 40 cm, a horizontal layer of rocks was visible on the surface.  Finds in this area were also minimal, with the exception of slingstones (4) and tile fragments.  A large piece of pan tile intermixed with pieces of cover tile was exposed and removed. (from section 73-77/N-O)  the pan tile had a slight deformity on its top surface and was placed in the tile pile.

In section KM/78-81, we completed removing the first humus layer (15-20 cm below surface).  Here, again, numerous possible slingstones (17), tile fragments, plaster pieces and pottery (red ware and impasto).  In our next section (40 cm below surface) we continued finding plaster and tile fragments, along with more slingstones (2), pieces of bucchero (M/81) and red ware, a bone, and a plaster fragment with a finished edge and need marks.

Grid was completed.  The trench section extends from 72-85/H-O.  Work continued in excavating the section between M/77-81.  At 40-45 cm below the surface we encountered a tile/rock buildup, which was cleared and removed.  It was very similar to the layer encountered in section N-O/72-77, at 20 cm below the surface.  This rocky layer continued in the former area until about 60 cm below the surface.  Finds were

limited to tile fragments, possible slingstones (33), several pathos fragments, two pieces of bone, and coarse and red ware pottery.
