Due to the work drawing sections in S 25-26, E 136-139, excavation wsa extremely limited.  Work defining the stones in S 27- E 137-138 continued.  In the afternoon this work will continue and the stones will be lifted.  The soil in between the stones was medium brown with some carbon similar to that immediatley north ( LOCUS 16), however it will be designated as a seperate locus- 17.

Work continued in the stone concentration, meters S 27, E 137-138.  Three flat stones ( 20-35 cm in length) were removed in S 27-28 E 138 which revealed another larger stone (approx. 70 cm in length).  As the stones throughtout the area were defined it became apparent that there were at least two layers of stone.  The soil above these stones and between the highest stones was lightly included with carbon and did produce ceramic material (LOCUS 17).  The concentration as it is currently definied is approximately 1 m. wide.  As the southern edge of the concentration has been better defined its relationship to the southern orientalizing wall maybe more readily ascertained.  They seem roughly in line, but the stones in S 27-28, E 137-138 are at a much higher level and it has not been determined if they run parallel to the northern orientalizing wall.  From the area of the stones, LOCUS 17, 1/4 latte box of pottery and bone, and 10-12 bits of tile were recovered, including one extra thick portion of a pantile (#2).

Work was also resumed in LOCUS 16, the area immediately north of the stone concentration in S 27, E 137-138.  The area was lowered approximately 5 cm to 71-72 cm b.d.  This work produced 3 bits of terracotta and  1/6 latte box of pottery and bone, as well as a bucchero rim (# 1).
