Agger 1

Work was begun on the western portion of the agger mud wall remaining in Agger 1 (see plan, p. 1).  Topsoil was removed and the mound began to be pared down to clearly define and expose the mud wall.  The usual tiles and pottery, including some bucchero

fragments were found.

Agger 2D

The tile and pottery fragments were lifted from the stone foundation wall for closer study in the magazzino.  The pottery fragments were mainly from large pithoi, including 2 rim fragments, a piece of bucchero, and a small piece of gray fabric stripped black.  Two small bits of bronze were also found.  The tiles and pottery took up 7 boxes.

Agger 3

The remaining section of the dike was taken down to the floor level.  A piece of Italo-Greek pottery with a black band on an orange surface

was found, and probably joins the other similar fragments from Agger 3 excavated previously.

Agger 4

Fill was removed in the dike, except the 2 sections with the mud walls, which are to the left standing for the timebeing. Some tile fragments, a bit of bronze and a few pottery fragments including a fragment of a plate rim with an incised rosette and 2 curved linen light orange fabric were found (find 1 on pg 29)
