Excavation in meters GG-HH/13-14 at a depth of c.60 cms. continued this morning.  The entire morning was spent excavating about (at this point it is difficult to discern just how many) five vases.  Each vase preserves an entire profile - at least two vases may be complete.  A more detailed description of the individual vases will follow.

The vases are smashed on top of each other.  Above and between them is a hard pink plaster - below this is a heavy black burn.

While excavating these vases, which range from a small red-ware cup to a large course ware storage vessel, one worked ivory triangle and one bronze nail were found.

Including yesterday afternoon's finds, eight complete profiles were found in meters GG-HH/13-15.  [See p. 172 and pp. 231-233].

P.M.

Workers continued excavation in various parts of the trench at a depth of c.60 cms.  Two workers completed the excavation of the heavy concentration of pottery in meters GG-HH/13-15.  One more complete profile remained to be excavated this afternoon - a fine impasto cup which preserves an inverted lip and on high swung handle.  This, like the other profiles from these meters, was found beneath a heavy concentration of plaster and above a heavy concentration of burned wood.

A second worker excavated meter EE-13 to a depth of c.60 cms.  On the surface of this cut, several fragments of worked (two carved fragments) ivory were found.

A third worker continued excavation in EE/14-15.  This area produced only a few sherds.
